UPDATE: Coroner Identifies Woman in Island Lake Death Investigation

A 48-year-old woman found dead in her home in Island Lake has been identified as Karen M. Scavelli. 

Scavelli was found dead in her residence in the 700 block of Dartmouth Drive Monday night. The death is under investigation "due to the suspicious nature of the findings at the scene," according to a McHenry County Coroner's Office press release. 

Preliminary findings from an autopsy performed Tuesday found the cause of death to be from injuries sustained from blunt force trauma. 

The McHenry County Coroner's Office, the Major Investigation Assistance Team and the State's Attorney Office is investigating the "circumstances surrounding this traumatic, unnatural death."

UPDATED TUESDAY AFTERNOON 

The Island Lake Police Department responded to the 700 block of Dartmouth Drive in Island Lake at 9:31 p.m. Monday for a report of suspicious circumstances after the person who called police said they were unable to get ahold of the female. 

Police were given permission to enter the home where they found the female's body, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release. Police also learned at that time the female's vehicle was missing. 

The car and a person of interest in the death turned up Tuesday morning after that person reportedly crashed into a home in the 1100 block of Diamond Lake Road in Mundelein at about 8:30 a.m. following a brief police chase, according to the article. 

The chase occurred while Mundelein police were responding to a call regarding an employee's purse that was stolen from the Gale Street Inn, 935 Diamond Lake. Police pursued the suspect's vehicle when the suspect sped up and crashed into the home, according to CBC Chicago. 

"As a result of the crash, a person of interest was detained," according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release. "Investigators are actively working the investigation and coordinating with Mundelein Police Department."

The name of the deceased female is not being released at this time pending notification of the family. The investigation into the death is in the "preliminary stages" and police said more information will be released once confirmed. 

"Investigators believe this to be an isolated incident and the public is not in any danger," according to McHenry County police.

The driver of the car is considered a "person of interest" in an Island Lake death, according to CBS Chicago.
