UPDATE: One Dead, Two in Custody in Shootout in Richmond

FBI agents and police continue to investigate the incident this afternoon and have closed a portion of Route 12, according to the Northwest Herald.

The Northwest Herald is reporting one robbery suspect is dead and two are in custody following a "shootout" outside an Associated Bank near Route 12 and Route 173 in Richmond this afternoon.

The FBI told the Chicago Tribune an agent shot a robbery suspect at the bank. No Associated Bank employees or agents were injured during the incident, according to the Tribune.

Meanwhile, Route 12, from north of Route 173 to the Wisconsin state line will be closed to traffic for several hours due to an active police investigation, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office advisory message sent out at 1:45 p.m.

"The community is not in any danger," according to the advisory message. 

Alternate routes include Keystone Road and Wilmont Road for those traveling in a north/south direction, according to the advisory.

Richmond area schools were placed on lock down Friday morning. A lockdown at schools within Nippersink School District 2 and Richmond-Burton Community High School District 157 has since been lifted, according to school officials.

ORIGINAL STORY: An emergency dispatch issued at 12:43 p.m. Friday reports an attempted bank robbery has occurred at the Associated Bank near Routes 12 and 173 in Richmond.

The dispatch states multiple victims have been shot, and local schools are on lockdown.

The Northwest Herald reports several witnesses have said there was a shootout between FBI agents and a bank robber, or robbers. There is a heavy police and FBI presence stopping traffic near Route 12 near the bank, located at 10910 N. Main St., the story states.

Some witnesses told the NWH there appears to be a dead body in the bank parking lot, according to the Herald.
