Man Tracks Stolen Property Using iCloud; Alleged Burglar Arrested

Homeowner tracks belongings using iCloud.

A McHenry resident returned home late Tuesday night to find his house had been ransacked and robbed.

McHenry County Sheriff's officers were called to the home shortly after 11 p.m. in the 3300 block of S. Wright Road, where the homeowners said jewelry, electronics, a knife and currency had been stolen, according to a McHenry County Sheriff's Office news release.

Among the stolen items: Apple products.

The quick-thinking homeowner tracked his stolen Apple products using iCloud, a storage mechanism that allows Apple owners to share information, photographs, etc. from one i-device to another.

Sheriff's deputies conducted an investigation and successfully located the alleged burglar and missing items at a nearby residence.

The suspect, Kevin S. Kosmicki, 34, of the 3400 block of S. Wright Rd., McHenry, was taken into custody and transported to the McHenry County Correctional Facility, the release stated.

Kosmicki was arrested and charged with residential burglary and theft. His bond was set at $100,000, and he was scheduled to appear in court Aug. 23, the release states.
