Carpentersville Man Sentenced in Hammer Attack, Rape of Young Girl

A 29-year-old Carpentersville man was sentenced to 66 years in prison for bludgeoning a female acquaintance with a hammer and then raping the woman's boyfriend's 8-year-old daughter, according to the Daily Herald. 

Daniel Happ pleaded guilty but mentally ill to attempted murder, predatory criminal sexual assault and aggravated cruelty to animals for stabbing the family dog, according to the article. 

The attack occurred on the 1200 block of Brookdale Drive in Carpentersville on March 6, 2012 while Happ was visiting the female acquaintance who lived in the home with her boyfriend and his four children, according to the Northwest Herald. The boyfriend was working at the time of the attack, according to the article. 

Happ had a history of mental illness, according to the Chicago Tribune.
