First Friday at Lakeside Legacy Today Showcases 14 Artists

The September "First Friday" features a juried display of 14 artists.

Today is "First Friday" at the historic Dole Mansion and Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake.

The public is invited to enjoy a mixture of the arts from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, at the Dole, 401 Country Club Rd., Crystal Lake. Admission is free, and the event is family friendly.

Today's First Friday Exhibit is entitled "Visage: Out of the Ordinary Portraits."

The juried exhibit showcases the work of 14 artists, and features many artistic mediums including photography, mixed media, sculpture, and oils, according to Lakeside Legacy news release.

First Friday guests are encouraged to view the artwork, mingle with the artists, enjoy music, explore the Dole Mansion and enjoy light appetizers and a cash bar.

One of the show's featured artists is Ginnie Lang, who partnered with International Aid Services (www.ias-america.org), a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the world through micro-lending, as well as other types of humanitarian assistance.

Under IAS's banner, Lange had the opportunity to visit Ghana, documenting the positive impacts through the work of IAS in the region. Her images in today's First Friday art show reflect stories of hope, betterment and triumph over appalling circumstances.

Through local partnerships and the IAS micro-loans, the people she photographed in Ghana are experiencing an increase in quality of life. They are now able to provide better housing and food for their families, can purchase mandatory uniforms for their school aged children, allowing them to attend school, and grow their respective businesses.
