Walter S. Herrick Sr. Memorial Fund now Accepting Tennis Scholarship Applicants

Scholarships are for tennis lessons for children age 10 to 16.

  The Racket Club, a Crystal Lake Park District facility, is pleased to announce tennis scholarship opportunities through the Walter S. Herrick, Sr. Memorial Fund for youth and teens between the ages of 10-16. Walt Herrick Sr. was one of the founding fathers of The Racket Club and he was a dedicated proponent of tennis in the local community. Though Mr. Herrick is no longer with us, other local luminaries including The Racket Club co-founder Jack Thomas, former club manager Walt Herrick, Jr. and longtime club member Denis Morimoto continue to advocate his mission by raising money for tennis lesson scholarships at The Racket Club. Racket Club Hosts Open House on Saturday

Open House is the perfect opportunity to sample the club's amenities.

  The Racket Club is hosting an Open House Demo Day from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 8. The tennis facility, owned and operated by the Crystal Lake Park District as a self-supporting membership facility, is located at 9101 S. Route 31, Algonquin.  The Racket Club Open House Demo Day is a perfect way to try the club and experience all of its amenities - for free. The event features: opportunities to try the newest racquets, hit with the pros, test the speed of your serve, analyze your strokes on video, work out on our new fitness circuit, try Cardio Tennis, and learn the latest stroke techniques. CL Park District Racket Club Hosts Major USTA Event This Weekend

More than 400 players will take to the courts at the Racket Club to compete for the title of "Best Team."

  Tennis teams from throughout Illinois will compete at The Racket Club, a Crystal Lake Park District facility, this weekend for the title of best United States Tennis Association (USTA) team in the state. The USTA League Illinois State Championships will feature champion teams from various USTA leagues, which are demonstrated top performers in their areas. The teams will now square off at The Racket Club, 9101 S. Route 31, Algonquin, to determine the best in tennis singles and doubles in Illinois. The USTA facilitates leagues in all age and ability levels, and this event will feature top adult and senior teams. The USTA League Illinois State Championships will take place from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11 and Sunday, August 12. …

Park District Names Manager at The Racket Club

Rob Laue comes from the Heritage Tennis Club of the Arlington Heights.

The Crystal Lake Park District named Rob Laue manager of The Racket Club. Laue is following in the footsteps of Walt Herrick, Jr., who is retiring after 30 years of service. A graduate of University of Illinois with a B.S. in Leisure Studies, Laue comes to the Crystal Lake Park District from the Heritage Tennis Club of the Arlington Heights Park District. For the last five years at Heritage Tennis Club, Laue worked as the Assistant Manager. He's also worked at Midtown Athletic Club in Bannockburn, the Pleasant Dale Park District and the Schaumburg Park District. “We have been fortunate to have had Walt Herrick, Jr. leading The Racket Club since 1982," Jack Sebesta, Crystal Lake Park District Superintendent of Facility Services, said.
