Sheriff: Snowmobile Riders Should Stay Off Ice

In the last three days, three snowmobilers have fallen through the ice.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office is asking snowmobile riders to stay off area waterways after three riders fell through the ice in recent days.  The incidents occurred over the past three days and involved two snowmobile riders who fell through while on the Fox River and another who fell through Wonder Lake, according to a sheriff's office press release. No one was seriously injured in any of the incidents though one of the riders was treated for minor face lacerations and hypothermia.  "Less than a week ago temperatures were above 60 degrees, which means that ice over waterways has not had an opportunity to build up sufficiently," according to the news release.
