Incumbent Republican Peter Roskam appears to have won the race for the 6th Congressional District, defeating challenger Leslie Coolidge. This is according to unofficial results.
Update 10:21 p.m. Incumbent Republican Peter Roskam ran against Democrat Leslie Coolidge for the 6th Congressional District seat. Unofficial results show that Roskam received 185,093, to Coolidge's 125,961. This is with 98% of precincts reporting. The 6th Congressional District crosses five counties. Coolidge watched the results come in at Emmetts in Palatine. Results information from Chicagotribune.com. Early voting for the Nov. 6 election begins Oct. 22 at various locations in McHenry County. The early voting period lasts until Saturday, Nov. 3. To vote early, a person must show a valid photo identification. Early voters must show a current driver's license, a state-issued ID card or another government-issued ID with a photograph, the McHenry County Clerk stated in a press release. The second presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Gov. Mitt Romney is set for 8 p.m. Oct. 16. The debate is at Hofstra University in New York and will be moderated by CNN's Candy Crowley. In the first debate, the candidates focused on domestic issues, including the economy and taxes, health care reform and the role of government. This second debate between the candidates is a town hall-style debate, including questions from the audience. It will focus on both domestic and international issues and will include questions from voters.
