Crystal Lake Police Department is urging drivers to celebrate safely this Memorial Day holiday.
If you're planning on celebrating Memorial Day weekend with any type of alcoholic beverages, make pre-arrangements now for a designated driver or taxi cab ride. The Crystal Lake Police Department will be on the streets from now through Memorial Day during the overnight hours cracking down on drunken drivers and motorists not wearing seat belts. The Crystal Lake Police have begun the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket” crackdown for the Memorial Day holiday. Crystal Lake Police stopped 68 motorists and issued 73 citations during a St. Patrick's Day crackdown aimed at saving lives. The police department participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program conducted for the holiday called “Drive to Survive." The Crystal Lake Police Department's holiday safe-driving crackdown resulted in 67 traffic citations and six arrests. The department conducted the Christmas holiday "Drive to Survive" enforcement campaign from Dec. 17, 2012 through Jan. 1, 2013, in an effort to save lives, Staff Sgt. The Crystal Lake Police Department stopped 75 motorists for traffic violations and issued 93 citations during a two-week Thanksgiving holiday crackdown aimed at saving lives, according to Staff Sgt. Dan Hulata. More than 200 law enforcement agencies in Illinois participated in the Illinois Department of Transportation's "Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program." I was informed by a cop that they are told by their supervisor to write more tickets to generate income for the station. I am all for getting drunk drivers off the streets but I have never seen any study that could prove that "safety stops" save lives. Also, these cameras that automatically send you a ticket ($100) for rolling a stop sign are ridiculous, Are they saving lives too ?   more ›
