CL Park District Hosts Indoor Garage Sale Today at Park Place

If you're just itching for the garage sale season to begin, stop by from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday at Park Place.

The seemingly endless winter season has taken a toll on garage sale enthusiasts. No worries. Garage sale addicts can get back in the game, work on their bargaining skills and search for 'treasures' at the Crystal Lake Park District's Indoor Garage Sale. The Indoor Garage Sale is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at Park Place, 406 W. Woodstock St., Crystal Lake. Approximately 22 registrants will be setting up sales booths, selling a variety a home good items from inside the warmth and comfort of Park Place, park district officials said.

Hundreds Turn Out for Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lippold Park

Sunny skies, lots of colorful eggs and a big, furry Bunny provided Easter fun.

About 300 children armed with baskets, plastic bags and buckets turned out to the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake on Saturday morning. The egg hunt, hosted by the Crystal Lake Park District and the Crystal Lake Jaycees, has become an Easter-time tradition for the community. The event was held on the older soccer fields at Lippold where four different areas - separated by age categories - were packed with eggs. The Easter Bunny took time out of his busy schedule to stop by the hunt as did newly crowned Miss Crystal Lake, Heather Tremblay, and Little Miss Photogenic Ainsley. Due to the chilly temperatures, participants bundled up in winter coats, hats and boots. But the sunny skies carried the feeling of spring, and …

Little Miss Crystal Lake Contestants 2013

Pageant will be held on March 22.

Nine young ladies have been busy preparing for the 2013 Little Miss Crystal Lake Pageant.  The pageant, held in conjunction with the Miss Crystal Lake Pageant, will be at 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Hannah Beardsley Middle School, 515 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. The Little Miss contestants will recite a short nursery rhyme or poem, sing a group song and answer a question provided by the Emcee. The public is invited to attend this special evening. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $5 per person.  The focus of the pageant is not beauty, but on finding a well-rounded young lady interested in representing her community. Five Crystal Lake girls have been busy preparing since mid-January for the 2013 Miss Crystal Lake Pageant.  The pageant finale will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, March 22, at Hannah Beardsley Middle School, 515 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake. The public is invited to attend this special evening. Tickets can be purchased at the door and are $5 per person. The focus of the pageant is not beauty, but on finding a well-rounded individual interested in representing her community.  In addition to being crowned Miss Crystal Lake, the winner receives a $1,000 scholarship. Enter to Win Burr Oak Tree Seedlings, Free Landscape Design

Deadline to enter the Crystal Lake Park District "Ugliest Yard" contest is Feb. 28.

  Could your yard use a little help? There's still time to enter the Crystal Lake Park District's Ugliest Yard contest. The deadline is Feb. 28, according to park district spokesperson Jenny Leech. The first-place winner will win a landscape design created by the park district's landscape architect Ann Viger and a $500 gift certificate from Two Amigos Landscaping, Inc. Several other people will win an oak tree seedling. The attached photograph shows a 125-year-old burr oak tree that once stood at Crystal Lake Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Dr., Crystal Lake. The tree was destroyed in a July 2011 storm, but acorns were gathered and cultivated by McHenry County Nursery/Glacier Oaks Nursery, Leech said in a press release. This effort resulted in …
