A winter weather warning has been issued for McHenry County through 6 a.m. Wednesday. Snow accumulation of six to 10 inches is expected by daybreak, according to the National Weather Service. Snowfall rates in excess of one inch per hour as well as wind gusts as high as 35 mph could contribute to white-out conditions and "near-zero visibility at times in open areas," according to the NWS. How much snow is expected?
Get ready for more snow! A winter weather advisory will be in effect from 9 p.m. Thursday until 6 p.m. Friday for all of northern Illinois including the following counties: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake, McHenry and Will. The National Weather Service in Chicago says the snow should develop by Thursday evening and continue into Friday, with snowfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches expected. "A period of heavy snow with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour is possible late Thursday evening into the overnight hours," according to the National Weather Service.

McHenry County is on the "snow side" of a weather system that has prompted the National Weather Service in Chicago to issue a Winter Weather Advisory for our area. The advisory runs from 10 p.m. Sunday to noon on Monday. Snow is expected to begin falling late Sunday night and continue through Monday morning, with the heaviest accumulations between midnight and 5 a.m., the NWS states. The storm is expected to impact the Northern counties in Illinois - Winnebago, Boone, McHenry, Kane, DuPage, Cook and Lake - as well as southern Wisconsin and Northwest Indiana. Snowfall totals could range from three to five inches north of the storm front, which stretches from north of Rockford to Chicago and Valparaiso, according to the NWS. Heavier …
