Cary to Host Electric Aggregation Public Forum

Residents and small businesses have the opportunity to learn the pros and cons of municipal electric aggregation.

The Village of Cary will be hosting a public forum to educate and inform residents and small business owners of the Municipal Electric Aggregation Program and what it means to them. This public forum will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28, in the Community Center at the Cary Park District, located at 255 Briargate Road. On Aug. 10, 2009, Governor Quinn signed a statute that allows municipalities to arrange for the provision of electricity to residential and small commercial retail customers by alternative electric suppliers (i.e., suppliers other than ComEd). While I do not support this initiative, I am curious why Cary didn't join the "other" towns in McHenry County (who are in the same process) to gain a much larger "leverage position">   more ›

Cary Village Board Approves 2011 Tax Levy

A 2.3 million Tax Levy will be filed by Tuesday. Dec. 27.

Taxed enough already. That was the attitude Cary Trustee Karen Lukasik held at the Tuesday night regular board meeting. After an hour of discussion, a unanimous vote by the village board approved the Tax Levy for 2011, in the amount of $2,378,724.  The levy seeks to captue new growth in the amount of an estimated $10,600 and does not increase the tax rate as related to the rate of inflation. The board rejected the other option of increasing the levy by $46,000, which was up for a vote at the Dec. 6 board meeting. Trustee Lukasik is having a hard time "justifying" a tax increase on taxpayers. "Some people are struggling," she said. "Give people a break this year because people are getting slammed."
