Huntley trustees and planning commissioners met with Centegra Health System officials Thursday to talk about issues surrounding the proposed Centegra-Huntley Hospital, the Northwest Herald reports. Centegra received approval from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board last year for a five-story, 375,000 square foot hospital with 128 beds and a full-service emergency room with a Level II trauma center and Level II special care nursery. The building would also have a helipad for transferring critical need patients. Thursday marked the beginning of the review process for Centegra’s plans. It hopes to break ground by October. Centegra hopes to break ground for Centegra-Huntley Hospital in October.
Centegra Health System is hoping to break ground on its Huntley Hospital in October and is starting the formal process of having its project reviewed by the village. Huntley’s village board and plan commission will have a join meeting Thursday, Feb. 7 where Centegra officials will provide preliminary information on the scope of the project, what approval and permits will be required and the determine how it will work with the village through the approval process, according to a village press release. The McHenry County Health Department confirmed the first human case of West Nile Virus in the county this week.
Area communities are upping their mosquito spray applications with the hopes of combating West Nile Virus in the area. The Lake in the Hills Village Board last week approved an additional spray treatment for the month of September. The treatment will be done in conjunction with the village of Huntley and the city of Crystal Lake. Clarke — the provider for the village's mosquito spray applications — encouraged the additional application in a Aug. 31 letter to the village, noting that the area remained at a moderate to high risk for a West Nile Virus outbreak. State health board approves plan for a Huntley hospital on Centegra Health Care campus at Haligus and Reed Roads.
A flurry of emails gave Rita Slawek the exciting news that she had longed to hear. “Everybody was like, yeah! We got it,” said Rita Slawek, president of the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce. The news Tuesday that the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board approved Centegra Hospital-Huntley spread through Huntley via social media and word of mouth. “People are excited,” said Slawek, who attended a hearing in December 2011 where the board narrowly rejected the plan. Tuesday’s news more than made up for that disappointment.
