Cary-Grove's Baker Selected for NFL Program

Junior quarterback Quinn Baker had 1096 yards and 18 touchdowns for the 2011 season.

Quinn Baker, who will be heading into his senior year at Cary-Grove High School, has been selcted as 1 of 36 diverse and talented high school athletes in the country to participate in the 2012 NFL-Wharton Prep Leadership Program, a selective leadership and achievement recognition program for a select group of elite male and female student-athletes.  The program will take will begin Monday, June 25 and end Wednesday, June 27 at the Wharton School of the University of Pennslyvania.  Baker was choose because his accomplishments in the classroom and on the playing field. Through his participation, he will learn from Wharton, NFL faculty, staff and peers. Midway through the 2011 football season, Baker stepped up in week 4 and didn't look back…

Cary-Grove Ends Central's Season

Trojans use two Baker touchdowns to get 17-7 win over Tigers in Class 6A first round game.

Cary-Grove and Crystal Lake Central High Schools are separated by only about six miles. On Friday night, the Tigers and Trojans faced off in the first round of the IHSA Class 6A football playoffs. C-G quarterback Quinn Baker scored twice as sixth-seeded Cary advanced with a hard-fought 17-7 win at Al Bohrer Field over the No. 11 Tigers. C-G (8-2) will go on the road next week to face either No. 3 seed Nazareth or No. 14 Deerfield. Cary got on the scoreboard first with a six-minute drive that finished with Baker going in from a yard out to give C-G a 7-0 lead. Here’s a look at the week in Cary-Grove athletics…. Football: It was the last game of the regular season Friday night for C-G, looking to end Prairie Ridge’s perfect season. The Trojans did just that with a 22-21 overtime win to finish the season at 7-2. Ryan Mahoney scored the two-point conversion in overtime for the victory. Quinn Baker had 140 yards rushing to lead Cary, who have the No. 6 seed in the northern bracket of the Class 6A bracket and will play at home against No. 11 seed Crystal Lake Central this weekend. Volleyball: The Trojans opened their week on Tuesday with a two-game victory over Dundee-Crown to get their 30th win of the season. Ashley Rosch had nine kills and eight digs for C-G. Here’s a look at how Cary-Grove’s athletic teams fared this week… Football: Cary clinched their eighth straight playoff berth with a 49-0 win over Dundee-Crown Friday. Quinn Baker ran for 153 yards and two touchdowns while Connor Carlson had 106 yards rushing and two scores of his own. The win moved C-G to 6-2 on the season going into Friday’s season finale at undefeated Prairie Ridge. Volleyball: The Trojans defeated McHenry on Tuesday in two games to begin their week. Here’s a look at how Cary-Grove athletics did the past week… Football: Friday night, Cary improved to 5-2 on the season with a 31-14 win at Huntley. Quinn Baker scored twice and rushed for over 150 yards as the Trojans won their first Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game of the season after starting 0-2 in divisional play. Volleyball: Cary began their week with a two-game win over Jacobs on Thursday night. Mallory Wilczynski had seven kills to lead C-G on the match. On Saturday, the Trojans went 5-0 to win the Schaumburg Invitational. Melanie Jereb had 36 kills for Cary, who moved to 27-4 on the season. Trojans' Roll Past McHenry

Baker scores six times as Cary cruises to 56-13 win.

After a difficult loss to Jacobs last week, Cary-Grove needed a strong effort to get back on track against McHenry. The Trojans did that and more as quarterback Quinn Baker scored five times on the ground and added a sixth touchdown on a pass to Ryan Mahoney as C-G easily defeated the Warriors 56-13. After a turnover on a lateral by McHenry three minutes into the game, Baker scored from 41 yards out to give Cary a 7-0 lead. Baker scored again three minutes later from three yards out and added a third first-quarter on a one-yard run as C-G ran out to a 21-0 lead after one quarter. Cary-Grove (3-1, 0-1 Fox Valley Conference Valley Division) at Jacobs (4-0, 1-0) When: Friday, 7:15 p.m. at Jacobs Athletic Field Last Meeting: Cary-Grove 49, Jacobs 21 in 2010 Trojans on Offense: Last week against Hampshire, coach Brad Seaburg decided to go with Quinn Baker at quarterback after Corey Laktas struggled in the early going and may have found something. Baker ran for 196 yards and four touchdowns as Cary played without running back Ryan Mahoney and ran for 394 yards. Expect a mix of Baker and Laktas this week as the two alternated snaps during the first two weeks of the season with the one playing better getting more snaps. Baker Carries Trojans' to Homecoming Win

The junior quarterback runs for 196 yards and four touchdowns to lead Cary to 35-6 win over Hampshire.

Coming off a difficult loss to Crystal Lake South and struggling early against Hampshire on Saturday afternoon, Cary-Grove needed a spark to get their offense going. That spark came in the form of Quinn Baker, who took over for Corey Laktas at quarterback and ran for 196 yards and four touchdowns as the Trojans won their Homecoming game 35-6 over the Whip-Purs. Hampshire (0-4) came out and got inside the Cary 10-yard line twice in the opening quarter but both teams the Trojans defense held Hampshire up short of the goal line. The game remained tied midway into the second quarter before Baker struck for the first time on a two-yard run to give Cary a 7-0 lead.
