C-G leads all the way but loses at end.
Saturday night’s game between Cary-Grove and Hersey wasn’t one that will go down as one of the best games you will ever see. For the Trojans and their fans, it will go down as disappointing in the end as C-G saw an eight-point third quarter slip away as the Huskies rallied at home for a 39-36 win in Arlington Heights. Cary (13-7) took an early 8-3 advantage and led all the way until Hersey tied the game with 30 seconds left and took the lead for good on two free-throws by Jen Hall with five seconds to go. Cary was led on the night by Olivia Jakubicek, who scored 20 points but fouled out with 33 seconds to play. Jakubicek said that Cary had control of the game most of the way. “We were battling the whole time and at the end, a few things …

Cary looks to avenge loss to Geneva in last season's sectional semifinal Thursday night in Class 4A Jacobs Sectional championship
Cary-Grove’s girls’ basketball team has waited an entire year to get another chance at Geneva after the Vikings won in the sectionals last season against the Trojans. Thursday night, Cary (27-3) will get their chance in the IHSA Class 4A Jacobs Sectional final in Algonquin. In last season’s game, Claire Jakubicek scored 22 points as Geneva won 48-41 at Huntley. This will be the first sectional title game in Cary’s girls’ program since 2001 when C-G lost to Hononegah. The last sectional title was in 1989. Cary is riding a 14-game winning streak coming into the game and hasn’t lost during the 2011 calendar year while Geneva has won nine straight and has a 24-6 record coming into Thursday night. Tuesday night was an opportunity for Cary-Grove’s girls’ basketball team to do something the program had not done in a decade. With a win over Fox Valley Conference rival Huntley in the IHSA Class 4A Jacobs Sectional semifinals, the Trojans would play for a sectional title for the first time since 2001. Cary came out a bit slow but turned it up as the game went on and used a 20-2 run in the second half to defeat the Red Raiders 57-37. The Trojans will play Geneva, who defeated Hononegah 70-60 in Tuesday's other semfinal in Thursday night’s title game at 7:30 p.m. Geneva defeated Cary in last season's sectionals to end the Trojans' season. Lincicum scores 11 as Trojans overcome early foul trouble to beat Streamwood 50-29 to win Dundee-Crown Regional
After Cary-Grove’s Claire Jakubicek got her second foul 1:22 into Thursday night’s IHSA Class 4A Dundee-Crown Regional final against Streamwood, you would think alarm bells may go off for the Trojans. The bell did go off for sophomore Joslyn Nicholson, who kept Cary in the game in the first quarter while Jakubicek was on the bench, scoring six of her ten points in that opening quarter. When Jakubicek did return, the top-seeded Trojans ran away and took home their third regional title in the last four years with a 50-29 win over the No. 2 seed Sabres in Carpentersville. With Jakubicek sitting, Nicholson scored six of the nine points Cary would score in the quarter and took a 9-8 lead into the second quarter. As the second quarter began, …

Jakubicek scores 22 as Cary improves to 21-3 with 57-41 win over McHenry
Sometimes it may seem like a broken record with Cary-Grove’s girls’ basketball team. The Trojans will start slowly and pick up the pace by the second quarter. That scenario occurred again Saturday afternoon against McHenry as C-G fell behind briefly early on but once again rallied for their eighth straight win and stayed perfect in the Fox Valley Conference Valley Division with a 57-41 win over the Warriors. In their third straight Saturday matinee, Cary (21-3, 8-0) fell behind 6-5 in the opening minutes before going on a 10-1 run to take the lead for good in the second quarter and took a 30-17 lead into the half. Cary put any doubt of a McHenry comeback out of reach it appears with a 8-2 lead to end the third quarter and allowed the …
