Men and Women play five games in next 10 days to complete regular season
With last week’s blizzard, McHenry County College’s basketball teams experienced a full week away from game action including three days of not having the ability to even practice. The men and women's team lost thursday night, today they hope to join the win column in their final home game against the College of Lake County. Both teams are struggling through their 2010-11 campaigns and the season winding toward the conclusion of the regular season next weekend, the time off would be thought of as a blessing. For women’s coach Pam Mason, she thought the break has its’ advantages and disadvantages. “Any time off especially during conference time when you are playing two or three games a week helps,” Mason said. “It can also hurt though …

MCC hosts Lake County Thursday night and Elgin Saturday afternoon
College provides the opportunity for players from different schools to come together as one for the first time in their careers. For McHenry County College’s women’s basketball team, it is all about playing for the county with all of the Scots coming from McHenry County high schools. Coach Pam Mason said that there are a lot of good players in McHenry County but some have not got the oppournity to play and her team is a classic example of what can be done with players who didn’t get much playing time in high school. “The county has a lot of girls who can play basketball and have the potential to go on and play college basketball,” Mason said. “With this team, a lot of the girls were on the team in high school but didn’t play. That’s the …

Scots get 14 from Haayer in 53-45 win over Morton College
Success is something that can be looked at by the numbers or just by showing improvement. Men and Women take 4-18 overall records into this week's action, looking to find some positives as the season ends toward the finish
With the season inside of ten games remaining, the number of wins has not been able to increase much for both of McHenry County College’s basketball teams. The men’s and women’s teams are both 4-18 overall this year. Men’s coach Jason Robinson said that his team has been leading but needs to get over the hump. “We need to find that edge to win some of these games,” Robinson said. “We’re absolutely in every game and we’re struggling to figure it out down the stretch.” Robinson added that there have been some defensive problems as well. “When we need a stop, we don’t get one. Overall, we are giving up way too many points. I was looking at the averages and we are giving up 77 points a game and it’s tough to win our conference giving up that …

Men and Women share similar 4-16 overall records as the season heads to the final stretch
The struggles have continued for McHenry County College’s basketball teams with the women’s team sitting at 4-16 after a 53-43 Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference loss to Waubonsee Community College on Tuesday. That loss came after two complete different scoring outings for the women over the past week, losing 57-23 to Elgin on Thursday then defeating Judson College’s JV team 84-36 on Saturday. Coach Pam Mason said that the team is having some issues figuring out things. “We've struggled with identifying with our style of offensive play all season. We've struggled with working as a cohesive unit on the defensive end where there are too many breakdowns and teams are allowed to score,” Mason said. “I've tried to stress the importance of …

After a rough non-conference start, MCC's basketball teams get ready to begin Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference play.
The 2010 calendar year was not kind to McHenry County College's basketball teams with the women's team at 2-11 and the men's team at 3-11. However, in one aspect the teams can start 0-0 again with the beginning of the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference season just around the corner. The conference season gets underway on Jan. 8 against Moraine Valley Community College at home in Tartan Gym at 1 p.m. for the women and 3 p.m. for the men. Women's basketball coach Pam Mason said that when the season started, she had one goal for her team to work towards. "At the beginning of the season, I told them we were playing for conference," Mason said. "Some of the games we play during the first half of the season are important because of regional …
