Lockdown Drills for Prairie Ridge, Central Won't Have Gunfire Sounds
Lockdown drills are planned for Tuesday at Prairie Ridge and Crystal Lake Central high schools in Crystal Lake.
Crystal Lake Central and Prairie Ridge high schools are scheduled to conduct annual lockdown drills on Tuesday, but theirs won't include simulated gunfire sounds, the Northwest Herald reports. The two schools are the last in District 155 to conduct the drill for students. Crystal Lake South held its drill before winter break, and Cary-Grove conducted its drill two weeks ago, which included two school officials shooting off blanks. The inclusion of the gunfire sounds drew media attention from throughout Chicagoland. Letters to parents from Central and PR specifically state simulated gunfire will not be a part of the drill, the Herald reports. My son's both attend Prairie Ridge High School and I feel that the lockdown drill should be somewhat realistic. I hope they never encounter this reality, but I'd rather they be prepared. Let's face some reality how many students would recognize the sound of a gun shot when they are at school. If hearing it during a drill makes them aware, it just might help them survive. more ›
