Owner, Employee of Big Grow Hydroponics Arrested for Delivery of Marijuana

Big Grow owner Michael J. Singley, 40, and his employee John E. Czaplicki, 22, were arrested Monday after McHenry County Sheriff's deputies acted on a tip the men were selling cannabis.

An owner and one employee of Big Grow Hydroponics in Lake in the Hills were arrested on Monday and are accused of selling marijuana, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office. Michael J. Singley, 40, of Rockton was arrested and charged with one count of unlawful possession of cannabis with intent to deliver, one count possession of cannabis and one count of  unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the sheriff's office news release.   Singley is an owner of Big Grow Hydroponics, 9225 Trinity Unit B and C, in Lake in the Hills, sheriff police said.  Big Grow employee John E. LITH Gets First Video Gaming Machines

Meanwhile, the village of Algonquin has adopted a wait-and-see approach and will decide in six months whether to OK video gambling for its businesses.

Moretti's in Lake in the Hills powered up five video gambling machines last week, which were among the first in operation in the area, according to the Elgin Courier News.  The five machines turned on Tuesday at Moretti's, 220 N. Randall Road, allow bets between 1 cent and $2 and can reward up to $500, according to the article.  Meanwhile, the village of Algonquin will wait six months to see how the gaming machines work out in neighboring communities before deciding whether to OK it in Algonquin, village board president John Schmitt said during a Tuesday meeting.  "Bringing gambling into a community is not an everyday thing for us," Schmitt said. LITH Teen, Several Others Arrested Following Drug House Investigation

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office conducted surveillance of a suspected drug house at 4505 Ponca St. in McHenry over a three-day period.

The McHenry County Sheriff's Office arrested a 19-year-old Lake in the Hills man on drug charges following an investigation into a drug house in McHenry.  Miatchell P. Moore, of 141 Bridlewood Cricle in Lake in the Hills, was arrested for unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the McHenry County Sheriff's Office press release.  Bond was set at $7,500 for Moore and he is next expected in court on Oct. 11.  After receiving several tips from residents about teenagers who were buying dugs from 4505 Ponca St. in McHenry, the McHenry County Sheriff's Office conducted surveillance of the home over a three-day period, according to the news release…

Police: Man Holding Hammer Attempts to Break Into LITH Home

Daniel W. Bockenhauer was arrested early Wednesday after police were called to the 4000 block of Heron Drive in Lake in the Hills.

A 19-year-old Huntley man is in custody after police found him holding a hammer outside a Lake in the Hills home early today and arrested him for attempting to break into the home.  Daniel W. Bockenhauer, of 11606 Lori Lane in Huntley, now faces several charges in connection with the arrest, including: attempt criminal trespass to residence, criminal trespass to real property and two counts of disorderly conduct, according to a Lake in the Hills Police Department press release.  The Lake in the Hills Police Department was called to the 4000 block of Heron Drive in Lake in the Hills at 2:15 a.m. for a possible home burglary. There police say the found Bockenhauer hiding in the bushes on the side of the home, according to the news release. …

Music, Comedy Takes Center Stage at Sunset Festival

The Lake in the Hills Summer Sunset Festival will be held Friday, Aug. 31 through Sunday, Sept. 2.

The 2012 Sunset Festival Main Stage Entertainment will offer a wide variety of music and more from Friday through Sunday evening. All entertainment is free. Find out which communities in the Chicago suburbs are still planning fireworks displays in the coming days.

The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday this year. That means you will have the chance to enjoy the festivities the weekend before, the weekend after and, of course, on July 4. Due to dry conditions, some area communities have decided to cancel or re-schedule their fireworks' shows.  We've got a list below of fireworks displays that have been cancelled as well as shows that are still scheduled in the Chicago suburbs. Lake in the Hills Readies for Gingrich Visits

Newt Gingrich is slated to speak at a rally on private land at 8585 Pyott Road at 2:30 p.m. Thursday. His wife, Callista Gingrich, will be reading a book she authored in a private event at the Goddard School in Lake in the Hills this morning.

After tough primary losses earlier this week, and just days before the Illinois primary election, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich, and his wife, Callista Gingrich, will make campaign stops Thursday in Lake in the Hills.  Gingrich and his wife have planned several stops in Illinois for March 14 and March 15.  Earlier this week, Gingrich finished second in primaries in Mississippi and Alabama behind Rick Santorum. Frontrunner Mitt Romney finished third in both states. Santorum has stops planned in Arlington Heights on Friday and Romney is expected to spend the night of the state's primary election, March 20, near Wheaton, according to media reports.
