Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club hosts another fundraiser to find a cure for pediatric cancer.
Guys usually make up the shavees, those shaving their heads in solidarity for children who have cancer and lose their hair, for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation annual fundraiser. But Mike Splitt was impressed this year by the number of girls signing up to shave their heads at Crystal Lake South High School for the cause. The school is located at 1200 S. McHenry Ave. “We had 10 girls with long hair down to their shoulders doing it, they shaved their heads completely bald,” said Splitt, president elect of the Crystal Lake Kiwanis Club which organized the fundraiser. “They raised a good amount of money. The Kiwanis Club expected a good crowd for Sunday's 5K - having had 500 people pre-register. But, by race day, another 201 participants had joined the fun.

Already, more than 350 participants have registered for the first-ever Santa Run/ Walk for Kids slated for 9 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, in Crystal Lake. Organizers are expecting more than 500 runners. The Kiwanis Club of Crystal Lake is hosting the 5K run/walk, during which runners will don Santa suits, pants, hats, belts and beards and make their merry way through downtown Crystal Lake. Children will receive a pair of reindeer antlers to wear for the event. Interest is so ho-ho-ho high in the Santa Run/Walk, organizers have already ordered an additional 150 Santa suits, said …
