Area communities will be hosting egg hunts and other events in the days leading up to Easter.
9 to 11 a.m.: The Easter Bunny will start his day at Park Place for the Crystal Lake Park District's Breakfast with the Bunny. A traditional Easter breakfast will be served and there will be goody bags for children and a visit from the Easter Bunny. There will be no assigned seating, all children must be accompanied by an adult and advance registration is required. The Congregational Church of Algonquin will host its 3rd Annual Heavenly Chocolate Fest on March 23.
If you are looking for a sweet pick-me-up—or a special treat for this Easter — the 3rd Annual Heavenly Chocolate Fest this weekend may have just the thing. The festival that celebrates all things chocolate and sweet will be held at the Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St. in Algonquin, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. this Saturday. Area vendors and members of the church will be selling goodies and there will also be live cooking demonstration that will feature chocolate and it's many uses. Admission is free.

The start of the Christian Lenten season begins Wednesday.
Feb. 13 marks Ash Wednesday, which is the start of the Lenten season for many Christian religions including Catholic, Presbyterian, Lutheran, Methodist, Anglican and Eastern Orthodox churches. In Western Christianity, Ash Wednesday takes place 40 days before Easter. Sundays that fall during that timeframe are not included in the 40-day count. On Ash Wednesday, many Christians will go to church to receive a cross of ashes on their forehead. The ashes are used as a sign of repentance to God. During lent, many Christians fast and repent to reflect upon Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. It’s customary for Catholics to not eat meat on Fridays during lent. The Easter Bunny will be busy this weekend as he makes the rounds to Easter egg hunts throughout the area. Below is a list of Easter egg hunts and other Easter events worth checking out in the coming days: Dog Easter Egg Hunt in Cary The Cary Park District will be hosting a dog egg hunt beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4 at Hoffman Park. The hunt will be located outside of the dog park area. All are welcome to attend. All dogs must be on a leash. This event is free.
