State Representative David McSweeney was sworn in Sunday, Jan. 6, as the new state representative from the 52nd state house district. McSweeney took the oath from Judge Peter C. McSweeney, R-Barrington Hills, won against independent candidate Dee Beaubien in the 52nd House District race.
Republican candidate David McSweeney won the 52nd House District race Tuesday night over independent candidate Dee Beabien. McSweeney, a financial consultant from Barrington Hills, had 23,563 votes — 7,792 more votes than Beaubien, also of Barrington Hills, who is the widow of Mark H. Beaubien, Jr. Mark represented the district from 1996 until his unexpected death on June 5, 2011. Creating a stronger economy and repealing a tax increase passed in the state last year is top on McSweeney’s to-do list now that he has been elected to office. “I am honored to serve the people of Illinois. Dee Beaubien, the Independent candidate for the 52nd House District race, will appear on the ballot for the upcoming election following a ruling Monday by the Illinois State Board of Elections. The State Board of Elections voted unanimously in favor of keeping Beaubien on the ballot. Opponent David McSweeney, R-Barrington Hills, filed the objection with the state board of elections, arguing Beaubien should not appear on the ballot as an independent because she signed petitions for Republican candidates during the March primary, according to the Northwest Herald.
