Joyce Elizabeth Dwyer, 79, longtime resident of Crystal Lake, peacefully passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at her home. Born April 10, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Lois (Lane) Grismer. After the death of her mother at a young age, she was raised by her father and step-mother, Mary Grismer. Joyce was a loving mother and cherished friend and enjoyed gardening and reading. She was a member of the community choir, which she helped found, and sang in the choir at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for over 30 years. She was a member of P.E.O. Women’s Organization, St. Jude Guild and Knit Wits. Joyce was instrumental with her late husband, Bill, and friends in the founding of Crystal Lake Gala and 4th of …

Louis “Lou” Gelsumino, 80, of Crystal Lake, passed away, May 9, 2013, in Barrington. He was born on August 25, 1932, to Louis and Ann Gelsumino in Chicago. Lou was a commercial artist by trade, he owned the Blue Overalls Tavern in Whitewater, Wis. Lou loved his family, country and fishing. Lou is survived by his daughter Debra (Pat) Sullivan and son, Michael Gelsumino; grandchildren, Nicholas Zellers, Nicole (Nick) Pacione and Patrick (Chrissy) Sullivan; and brother, Robert “Bob” Gelsumino. Michael Doerner, 80, of Crystal Lake, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2013, in Woodstock. He was born on July 5, 1932, to Stephen and Caterina Doerner in Austria. Michael is survived by his daughter, Gabriele and her husband, Jesus Gutierrez; son, Michael Doerner; granddaughter, Emily Reego; and sister, Elizabeth Maiers. He was preceded in death by his wife of 30 years, Gertrude (nee Luther), and his parents. Kyle R. Pratt, 23, died Saturday, April 20, from injuries sustained in a dirt bike accident one week ago.
The Crystal Lake man involved in a dirt bike accident one week ago on the north side of city has died. Kyle R. Pratt, 23, of 995 Whitehall Way, passed away Saturday, April 20. Funeral arrangements have been published by Davenport Family Funeral Home in Crystal Lake. Read the obituary for Kyle R. Pratt here. Pratt was injured on Saturday, April 13, while riding a 2002 Suzuki RM Motocross at about 5:21 p.m. near Nunda Trail and Terra Cotta Road just outside the Crystal Lake city limits. According to police reports, Pratt was riding the dirt bike on ComEd property under the high voltage power lines. He lost control of the bike for unknown reasons and was ejected. Kyle R. Pratt, 23, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge. He was born Nov. 6, 1989 to Joseph and Judy (Schaefer) Pratt. Kyle graduated from Crystal Lake South High School in 2008. His love of adventure served him well in his pursuit of golf, fishing, baseball, skateboarding, and snowboarding to name a few. In recent years, his newest passion and career path was cooking. At the time of his death he was the second cook at Coleman’s in Cary. Kyle was just starting out, but he had his sights set on eventually becoming “Top Chef.” Kyle was always known as a generous individual. He was born Dec. 20, 1937, in Chicago, to the late Sivert and Frances (nee Crepinsek). He married Cynthia Geffers-Sparks on August 3, 1985. Dunn Mizell, 49, of Crystal Lake, passed away in his home on April 14, 2013. He was born on Feb. 25, 1964, at Mildenhall Air Force Base in Suffolk, England and lived most of his life in Crystal Lake. He was a member of the first graduating class that attended Crystal Lake South High School for all four years in 1982. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in Chemical Engineering and then began in earnest to pursue one of his passions: Flying. Nicholas “Nick” James Wardrip, (16), of Barrington, passed away suddenly, April 12, 2013. He was born January 5, 1997 in Barrington to Russell and Camille Wardrip. Nicholas was a sophomore honor student at Barrington High School. He was a Life Boy Scout with Troop 21 of Barrington, where he was working towards his Eagle Scout award. He enjoyed playing his bass, video games, Boy Scout outings, camping and music.
