At Dolphin Swim Club in Crystal Lake, the last Friday of every month is SAFETY DAY! This is open to the public to increase safety awareness in the water. Kids are able to come in their clothes and participate in different activities, first out of the water and then in the water. They get to experience how it feels to fall in the water fully clothed. They are taught how to react in accidental and preventable situations. The Safety Clinics prepare children and give them confidence so they don't panic in case they are ever in those situations.

The playground is on the west side of the park on Walkup Avenue at Veteran Acres, just up from the Walkup/Route 176 intersection. There has been a playground at that end of the park since the 1960’s. It is a “well attended, well used playground,” said Jenny Leech, Public Information Coordinator for the Crystal Lake Park District. The park is open from dawn to dusk daily. The splashpad is basically a system of built in underground sprinklers and shooting jets of water over a safe surface. On Tuesday, June 21, from 7 to 8 p.m., the Crystal Lake Park District is hosting a grand opening celebration of the new Acorn Alley Playground and Splashpad. Event to teach children to swim while attempting to break a record.
Aquatic facilities across the globe, including one in Crystal Lake, are teaming up to teach children to swim while also attempting to break a Guiness World Record. The World's Largest Swimming Lesson will take place Tuesday, June 14, "to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim to help prevent drowning," according to the WLSL website. Waterparks, pools and other aquatic facilities around the globe will host local WLSL lessons simultaneously at 10 a.m. in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record.
