Two 13-year-olds caused over $3,000 worth of damage.
Two 13-year-old males were charged after admitting to damaging headstones March 20 at Mount Thabor Cemetery. According to Crystal Lake Police, 17 tombstones had been either knocked over or damaged by the two juveniles causing an estimated $3,300 in damage. Someone observed the teens causing the damage and notified police, but upon arrival, the deputy was unable to apprehend the offenders after pursuing the subjects on foot. The two 13-year-olds, one a resident of Crystal Lake and the other of Woodstock, admitted to causing the damage after a neighborhood canvass conducted in the Bryn Mawr Sub-Division. One day event focused on McHenry County residents with outstanding warrants.
Early Thursday morning deputies began looking for county residents with outstanding warrants and by about 11:30 a.m. they had 24 arrests. The McHenry County Sheriff's Apprehension Unit arrested two dozen people during the March 29 arrest warrant roundup. According to the Sheriff's Office, the one day roundup was part of an effort to address the large number of outstanding arrest warrants in McHenry, Lake, DeKalb and Kane County.
