Natural raffle will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, at Duke's Alehouse in Crystal Lake.
The Crystal Lake Jaycees organization is holding a new type of fundraiser. The Jaycees' "Inaugural Natural Raffle" is set from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Duke's Alehouse and Kitchen, 110 N. Main St., Crystal Lake. The prizes will include an assortment of organic meats, wellness services and natural products, according to a Jaycees' press release. The grand prize is a quarter side of grass-fed beef from Q7 Ranch in Marengo. A list of raffle prizes up for grabs – as well as information about purchasing grand prize raffle tickets – can be found on the Jaycees' website. Sunny skies, lots of colorful eggs and a big, furry Bunny provided Easter fun.
About 300 children armed with baskets, plastic bags and buckets turned out to the annual Easter Egg Hunt at Lippold Park in Crystal Lake on Saturday morning. The egg hunt, hosted by the Crystal Lake Park District and the Crystal Lake Jaycees, has become an Easter-time tradition for the community. The event was held on the older soccer fields at Lippold where four different areas - separated by age categories - were packed with eggs. The Easter Bunny took time out of his busy schedule to stop by the hunt as did newly crowned Miss Crystal Lake, Heather Tremblay, and Little Miss Photogenic Ainsley. Members of the Crystal Lake Jaycees begin picking up food donations from schools today, and the public is welcome to bring donations to the Community Harvest Headquarters.
Maybe you've heard of the Community Harvest in Crystal Lake. The city-wide food collection drive is in its 22nd year. But if you've never donated, participated, or attended any of the Community Harvest events, you may not understand what it's all about. Most notably, volunteers gather to work on Thanksgiving morning. "No, we're not packing up Thanksgiving meals," said Community Harvest chairperson Judy Pelinski. "Thanksgiving meals have already gone out by then." "Community Harvest centers around the harvest theme, the day of giving," Pelinski said. The Crystal Lake Park District/ BMO Harris Bank "Blast on the Beach" is shaping up to be a super end-of-summer festival. In addition to an incredible line-up of fun and entertainment, "Blast on the Beach" is offering an easy way for attendees to join the spirit of giving back to the community. Because of the generosity of BMO Harris Bank, admission to this year's "Blast on the Beach" is free - for everyone!
