Road Conditions Worsen as Snow Continues to Fall

A winter storm advisory is in effect for McHenry County through 9 p.m tonight.

Like" Crystal Lake-Cary Patch on Facebook | Get daily updates and breaking news alerts with our newsletter | Start a blog It could be a treacherous commute for many taking to area roads this evening.  Roadway conditions continue to worsen as heavy snow falls and strong winds whip through the area. A winter storm advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. tonight for McHenry County.  As of 2:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, 5.5 inches of snow had fallen in Bull Valley in McHenry County with 2.1 inches of snow falling in one hour, according to the National Weather Service. Roads Snow-, Ice-Covered for Monday Morning Commute

Many highways and roads in northern Illinois were ice- or snow-covered Monday morning following snow overnight, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation website.

Snow blanketed the area overnight making for a tough commute for many Monday morning.  A winter weather advisory is in effect for McHenry County — and much of the area — through noon today with more snow expected through the morning. In the area,  2.9 inches of snow was recorded in Huntley and 2.3 inches of snow in Woodstock, according to the WGN Weather Center Blog.  The Chicago Tribune reports several accidents before 7 a.m. this morning along the Dan Ryan, Kennedy and Eisenhower expressways and I-294. Locally, Route 31 northbound at Edward Street in Algonquin was closed due to road conditions, according to the Northwest Herald.  Most of the roads in the area — and in northern parts of the county — were marked as snow- or ice-covered …
