Due to poor ice conditions, the 42nd Annual Chili Open Golf Classic has been rescheduled for the second time this year. The annual golf tournament held on the ice of Crystal Lake has now been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16, according to Crystal Lake Park District spokeswoman Jenny Leech. Leech said park district staff is holding out hope that forecasted drop in temperatures over the next few weeks will create safe ice conditions for the event held at Crystal Lake Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Drive, Crystal Lake. Drought, low lake water and lack of ice provide challenges for annual outdoor events.

The ongoing drought has claimed yet another victim. The Crystal Lake Anglers 40th Annual Ice Fishing Derby scheduled for Jan. 27, at Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Dr., has been cancelled, according to the Crystal Lake Park District. The derby was called off due to the low lake water conditions and logistical issues, according to Jenny Leech, public information coordinator for the park district.
