From the Wisconsin border to the south side of Chicago and into the western suburbs, local roads, interstates and highways were closed Thursday because of flooding. Click through the pins above to see which roads in your area — or on your route to and from work today — have been closed due to flooding or have high-standing water. The National Weather Service is predicting between three to five inches of new snow accumulation Thursday night for Crystal Lake and Cary.
Snow along with freezing drizzle could make for dicey driving conditions Thursday night and Friday morning. The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of the Chicago suburbs with snow expected to start late Thursday afternoon and continue into the night before switching to freezing drizzle and light snow by early Friday. Between three to five inches of snow is predicted for Algonquin and Lake in the Hills late Thursday. Snow and freezing drizzle is expected before noon on Friday. The "Biggest Loser" will bring its weight loss camp to the Chicago suburbs. Fitness Ridge Worldwide LLC, the Los Angeles company that runs the weight loss resorts fashioned around the Biggest Loser show, is expected to announce today that it will open its fourth location in May at the Eaglewood Resort & Spa in Itasca, according to Crain's Chicago Business. Many highways and roads in northern Illinois were ice- or snow-covered Monday morning following snow overnight, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation website.
Snow blanketed the area overnight making for a tough commute for many Monday morning. A winter weather advisory is in effect for McHenry County — and much of the area — through noon today with more snow expected through the morning. In the area, 2.9 inches of snow was recorded in Huntley and 2.3 inches of snow in Woodstock, according to the WGN Weather Center Blog. The Chicago Tribune reports several accidents before 7 a.m. this morning along the Dan Ryan, Kennedy and Eisenhower expressways and I-294. Locally, Route 31 northbound at Edward Street in Algonquin was closed due to road conditions, according to the Northwest Herald. Students collected, wrapped and donated an estimated $20,000 worth of Christmas gifts for students in need at Richard J. Daley Academy in Chicago.
A massive 3-foot-tall pile of packages crowded the front office at Cary-Grove High School by Thursday morning. Nearby, a miniature artificial Christmas tree was dwarfed by the more than 750 gifts, all wrapped in colorful holiday paper and gift bags. Each package bore a gift tag with the name of a child from Richard J. Daley Elementary Academy, 5024 S. Wolcott Ave., in Chicago. The "From" designation on many tags simply read: "Santa." "This is the most (gifts) we've ever collected," said Cary-Grove High School senior Patrick Kelly. Kelly is the president of the school's Interact Club, which coordinated the school-wide gift collection drive culminating in an estimated $20,000 worth of toys and clothing donations, school officials said. …

An investigation remained under way Monday afternoon regarding a Sunday morning incident in which a suburban man was found dead in a Fullerton Parkway alley.
From Lincoln Park Patch: The Lincoln Park death of a suburban man early Sunday remained under investigation Monday afternoon, though a spokeswoman for the alderman's office says there's no evidence of foul play. Timothy Gallagher, 21, of the 1000 block of Hawthorne Drive in Crystal Lake, was pronounced dead at the scene in an alley of the 400 block of West Fullerton Parkway early Sunday morning. Those in the Chicago Police Department's News Affairs Office said police responded at 5:16 a.m., when they got a call about a "man down" in that area. Gallagher, who had suffered head trauma, was dead on arrival, they said. He may have fallen from one of the higher floors of a building backing up to the scene. Police declined to specify which …
