Motorists across Illinois have been paying more at the pumps this week, more than the majority of states, according to AAA. Here are the lowest prices in the Crystal Lake-Cary area.
The majority of states may be experiencing a drop in gas prices, but not Illinois and other parts of the Midwest, according to AAA. Record rainfall that led to flooding and reduced production related to refineries shifting over to "summer-blend" gasoline are part of the reason, reports AAA. There was also an explosion at a Detroit refinery on April 27, though that incident was not expected to contribute to higher prices for motorists. The current average price for regular unleaded in Illinois is $3.95. Last month, the average was $3.84. A year ago the average was $4.02. The highest recorded average was $4.31 on May 5, 2011, according to AAA. Crystal Lake, Cary Gas Prices As of Sunday, the following gas stations had the lowest prices for …

Many roads along the Fox River remained closed to through traffic on Thursday as McHenry County residents and local officials waited for food waters to recede.
Water levels along the Fox River remained high on Thursday. Many area roads - such as Rawson Bridge near Cary - and other residential streets along the river were covered by standing water and closed to through traffic. Some good news: workers and volunteers at Nunda Township had stopped filling sandbags. However, the Nunda Township Highway Department remained plenty busy delivering water, food, gasoline and other supplies to those people stranded in their homes along the Fox. "We're here to support the residents," newly elected highway commissioner Mike Lesperance said. Lesperance, his crews and volunteers have been working long hours over the past week. Many of the people assisted by the township crews are elderly and want to stay in …

Area voters report little to no wait at polling places during today's local election.
Many area voters reported a slow day at polling places during today's local election. April's local elections typically have low voter turnout. Here is a breakdown of voting tallies during the most recent local elections in McHenry County: Patch readers sounded off today on the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills and Crystal Lake-Cary Facebook pages regarding today's election. Many stated they dealt with little to no wait in their precincts. Around 6 p.m. Tuesday, poll workers in one local precinct said they believed today's turnout seemed much lower than past elections. Here is what other readers had to say on Facebook in response to the question, "Were there any lines at your polling place?": Source: McHenry County Clerk

I agree with everyone that mentioned Bull Valley! McConnell Road, Country Club Road, and Crystal Springs Road all need help!!! I've had 2 incidences of tire damage just this year, and I put those pot holes to blame. The sad part is that All three are unavoidable for me unless I want to add another 20+ minutes to my work commute, or cut out visits to see my parents. Please, please, please, fix …   more ›
