Area Student Discusses Her Research with Eating Disorders

Cary-Grove graduate has become a Fulbright Fellow.

Eating disorders are complicated and chronic mental illnesses that threaten severe physiological and psychological consequences, with anorexia nervosa carrying the highest mortality rates of any mental illness. I developed a fascination in adolescence for these unique illnesses and wanted to study how they develop, how they take over young, bright adolescents, and then learn what can be done to combat them. I discovered that eating disorders are best attacked early in the illness, making adolescents the best treatment candidates. Adolescents’ dropout rates from treatment programs are significantly lower than in adult eating-disorder populations. Teens also attain remission in higher numbers than adults, with overall more favorable …

What To Do If The FVC Changes Again?

Trojans coaches discuss their thoughts on Johnsburg possibly leaving the Fox Valley Conference.

Over the past month, it has been reported that Johnsburg is looking to leave the Fox Valley Conference which would put the conference back at 13 teams if the Skyhawks were to bolt back to the Big Northern Conference. I took the opportunity to ask some coaches at Cary about what the conference should do if the conference goes back to 13 teams and if the conference should go to 16 teams instead of just looking for another 14th team. Softball coach Tammy Olson said that it probably wouldn’t have a major impact in her opinion. “It (would) be hard but it really wouldn’t affect our side of the conference,” Olson said. “It really doesn’t affect us that much but a lot depends on who would come in and that is totally a superintendent’s discussion …

The only returning starter from last season's sectional championship team discusses his move across the diamond and his new teammates.

Last season was a big one for Cary-Grove’s baseball team, going to the sectional championship game. This season has been a big change so far with 8 of the team’s nine starters all graduated from last year. The lone returner is shortstop Matt Byrne who will try to lead the Trojans back to the sectionals and beyond this season. Byrne said that he has had a lot to teach his newest teammates. “The game is a little faster on varsity,” Byrne said. “It just takes experience to play at this level. What I’m trying to do is put them up when they are down. I’m always looking out for them and telling them what to do in certain situations.” One other big change this season for Byrne has been switching sides of the diamond, moving from second base to …

Last season, Nick Richter was wearing a Cary-Grove uniform trying to get the Trojans back to the state finals before a sectional finals loss.
