Cary Board Targets Home Gun Sales

Village officials want to revise the home occupation section of the zoning ordinance.

The Cary Village Board has petitioned to outlaw the sale of guns out of one’s home. According Jacob Rife, assistant to the village administrator, a resident has shown interest in selling guns from home. Given this request is the first of its kind in Cary, the village code does not specifically prohibit selling guns from a residence. At the Tuesday night regular board meeting, Cary trustees agreed to clean up the language in the village code and ultimately ban the sale of guns from a home. The proposed an amendment to the ordinance. The amendment will be sent to the Board of Zoning, Planning and Appeals, which will make a recommendation to the Village Board about the language of the proposed text amendment, Rife said. Community Showcase Draws Large Crowd

Cary Grove Community Showcase displayed the local businesses in the area this Saturday at Cary-Grove High School.

The 29th Annual Cary Grove Community Showcase proudly displayed the local businesses on Saturday at Cary Grove High School. With almost 100 booths present, local businesses, community groups, and area leaders were able to divulge information and promote their business or organization to interested guests who were eager to learn more. Business owner, Erica Cody of Scentsy in Fox River Grove recommended her safe, wickless alternative to scented candles. She mentioned, "the paraffin wax is non-toxic and edible." There are decorative warmers designed to melt scented wax without the traditional wick and flame. Rack and Roll, Exciting New Hot Spot in Cary

Rack and Roll owner promises good time for all. New business brings family atmosphere to Cary.

Families in Cary have a new place to hangout and hone their pool skills.   Rack and Roll began 2011 off on a positive note, opening their doors for business earlier this month. The new spot is located at 362 Northwest Highway and they offer a fun atmosphere, including pool tables, arcade games and refreshments, however do not sell alcohol. Rack and Roll is open Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 9 pm to midnight and Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 6:30 pm to midnight. At times they will have a live drummer and you can also listen to the jukebox, which includes rock, country and pop.  All ages are welcome at Rack and Roll. Chamber Annouces 2011 Board of Directors

Along with new board of directors, the chamber is expanding it's services and moving to a new location.

From the Cary-Grove Chamber of Commerce Press Release.   The 2011 Board of Directors of the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce was elected at the Chamber's general Board meeting on Friday, Nov. 19.   The Chamber leadership consists of four Executive Board Members and 14 Board Members, all energetic individuals who donate their time to local business and a host of community events. Local Salon Hosts Open House, Donates to Cary-Grove Food Pantry

Modern Wave Salon and Spa in Cary hosted a open house Friday night, to kick off the holiday season.

Over the weekend, Modern Wave Salon and Spa in Cary hosted an open house to kick off the holiday season and there were free gifts for the first 100 guests.  The salon had special offers throughout the event and Aveda guest artists, including makeup artist Kendall Frisbee from Rockford. Each $25 donation included a raffle ticket, Aveda Makeup Touch-up and one salon or spa mini service. Dana Turskey, owner of Modern Wave Salon and Spa, is donating the proceeds to the Cary-Grove Food Pantry. This is a salon and spa that does hair, makeup, nails, color, styling, massage, facials, and waxing. They also have rewards programs for returning clients. Sage Products Receives Stimulus Funds For Expansion Project

Funds are in addition to those awarded to the village

Sage Products in Cary already is the village's largest employer, but when its facility expansion is completed by mid-2011 its workforce also should increase.  The expansion is being funded in part by nearly $5.7 million in bonds secured under the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, which was signed into law in early 2009. The ability to seek the interest free bonds was made possible when the McHenry County Board chose Sage Products project, earlier this month.   The board was in charge of the $21.7 million in stimulus money allocated to the county, Deputy County Administrator John Labaj said. Labaj said the funds were used to pay for three projects including Sage's expansion, and were awarded on a first come first serve basis.
