Paul Jonas says despite a low turnout Saturday evening, he’s planning another fight night in June.
An optimist might say that the banquet hall was half-full during the amateur boxing show Saturday night at a Banquet hall in Lakemoor. Cary resident Paul Jonas, a promoter putting on his first amateur boxing show, is an optimist and he said Saturday was the first of many fight nights to come. “I’m all in,” Jonas said. “It’s not quantity that counts. It’s quality.” Many sitting ringside at Lakemoor Banquets, including boxing coaches, saw an exciting night of boxing and offered rave reviews. “I’m happy with this venue,” said Tony Prignits, a boxing coach with the Pug’s Boxing Club in Crystal Lake. “Tonight you saw even matchups and exciting boxing. "Bobby is training like a champion," said Gary Dobry, owner of the gym. "He's got the desire. He's the one fighter from this gym who has risen to the top. You've got to want it bad enough. He really wants it. He's training hard every day." "Bobby's got moxie," Tony Prignits said. "He's got enough moxie to win it all." Prignits, who speaks with a heavy British accent, has been working DeCore's corner. He wears a shirt that says, "Tony The Motivator." But Prignits said what he is telling DeCore about becoming a champion is more than just the words to get a good workout out of him. Prignits …
