President Barack Obama proposed Tuesday night a "Fix It First" program to address the nation's crumbling infrastructure—like roads and bridges—in an effort to improve citizens' quality of life and bring jobs to the United States. There are nearly 70,000 "structurally deficient" bridges throughout the United States that require "significant maintenance, rehabilitation or replacement," according to the Transportation for America website. In Illinois, 8.5 percent of the state's bridges are "structurally deficient." The state is ranked 35th worst nationally for the overall quality of its bridges, according to the Transportation for America website. U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam (R-IL) said he doesn't expect to see President Barack Obama embrace bipartisanship in his State of the Union address Tuesday night, according to CNBC. President Obama will deliver his fourth State of the Union address tonight. The address begins at 8 p.m. (central time) and will be televised on most major networks. You can tune in at home, or visit a local watch party. Barack Obama's Organizing for Action has a list of parties being held tonight throughout the Chicago suburbs. President Obama is expected to focus on jobs and the economy during his State of the Union Address, according to a PBS report.

President Barack Obama and Vice-President Joe Biden were re-elected Tuesday night, defeating Republican challenger Mitt Romney and his vice-presidential running mate Rep. Paul Ryan. NBC News called the presidential election for Obama around 11:15 EST. The president sent a message on Twitter at 10:14 saying simply, "This happened because of you. Thank you." The Obama campaign won the most expensive presidential race ever, with both parties raising about $2.6 billion. The race was filled with negative campaigning on both sides, from President Obama attacking Romney’s business experience with Bain Capital to Romney lambasting Obama’s handling of the economy. Illinois voting ends at 7 p.m. But other states, including swing states, have different hours.
Illinois voters have until 7 p.m. to cast their 2012 presidential ballots, but no one is waiting very anxiously to see if our state swings Red or Blue. However, for key swing states, the picture is much different. The earliest key state to watch for is Virginia, where polls close at 6 p.m. central time. Voting ends 30 minutes later in swing states Ohio and North Carolina. At 7 p.m. swing states Florida, Pennslvania and New Hampshire close their polls.
