Crystal Lake Salvation Army traveling throughout McHenry County to help out.
A few volunteers filling sandbags in Nunda Township were taking a break and got some food and drinks from the Salvation Army of McHenry County’s canteen. The boys asked how much they owed and were surprised to learn it was free, said Linda Hunter-West, a spokeswoman with the Salvation Army. It is based in Crystal Lake. “We never accept money at the canteen. We are out there to help provide for the people who are first responders, individuals involved in the incident or volunteers,” Hunter-West said. “We are out there to serve a warm meal, a snack, hot coffee or hot chocolate. Several area township races were voted on during Tuesday's primary.

The Village of Cary has improved the roadway on East Main Street but now has to foot the bill. Algonquin Township completed road work on East Main Street in early September 2011, in which portions of the street just passed Decker Road includes Cary, according to Chris Clark, village administrator. However, once the township completed the work, they submitted a bill for $30,020 to the village. After meeting with Robert Miller, the Algonquin Township highway commissioner and researching old files, Clark did not find a formal approval or agreement brought to the Cary Village Board. “There had been discussions with staff for a number of years about the section of roadway,” Clark said. Thank you so much to all the volunteers and to Nunda Township for help with the sandbagging. We live at 701 Rawson Bridge Road and the water came within inches from entering our house. Without the volunteers that helped us sandbag we would have had water in our house. Luckily the water is just surrounding our house and is in the crawlspace, but not in the house.
