Luis A. Ruiz faces arson and criminal damage to property charges.
A 27-year-old Lake in the Hills man faces charges after police said he intentionally set a van on fire in Crystal Lake early Tuesday. Luis A. Ruiz, of 1507 Washington St., Lake in the Hills, is accused of setting fire to a Chevrolet van on Butternut Drive in Crystal Lake. The McHenry County Sheriff's Office was called to the vehicle blaze at 4:57 a.m. April 3. Police said they learned of Ruiz's involvement through witness statements and evidence found at the scene, according to a sheriff's office press release. Ruiz turned himself in Tuesday evening and was taken into custody at the McHenry County Correctional Facility. He was charged with felony arson and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. McHenry County ranked fifth out of the 102 counties in Illinois.
McHenry County residents are among the healthiest in the nation, according to recently released County Health Rankings. The report, which looks at a variety of health factors for counties throughout the nation, ranked McHenry County the fifth healthiest among the 102 counties in Illinois. The report was released Tuesday by the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The ranking is a slight drop over last year when McHenry County ranked fourth in the state. “The County Health Rankings show us that much of what influences our health happens outside of the doctor’s office. Nicholas C. Svoboda of Cary and Adam Pittner of Crystal Lake were both taken into custody in Lake in the Hills Sunday evening.
Two area teens are in custody after leading area police on a chase in a stolen car Sunday, police said Monday. Adam W. Pittner, 19, of 1181 Amberwood in Crystal Lake, and Nicholas C. Svoboda, 18, of 7 Hickory Lane in Cary, face several charges in conjunction with the incident, which was first reported Sunday afternoon and lead to their arrest hours later in Lake in the Hills. The Algonquin Police Department initially attempted to pull over them over near Algonquin and Frank roads Sunday after checking the license plate on their car and learning the 2011 Chevy Impala had been stolen, said Sgt. Ted Ziarkowski of the Lake in the Hills Police Department. Police were unable to pull them over and the two eventually abadoned the car, he said. "…
