Crystal Lake is best known for its parks and lakes. More than 1,600 acres of parks and open land are located in the city as well as the 230-acre Crystal Lake, which is enjoyed by the residents for swimming, boating, fishing and even skating in the winter. Crystal Lake has two large school districts within its borders, Elementary School District 47 and Community High School District 155. The city also offers a number of private schools and preschools. The Crystal Lake government is comprised of a mayor, city manager and city council.
