Lake County Sheriff Arrests Alleged Heroin Dealers After Wauconda Death

Two Waukegan suspects arrested at Wauconda forest preserve; Waukegan man charged with drug induced homicide in relation to death of 26-year-old Wauconda man.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), made two arrests and seized heroin in the course of investigating the death of a 26 year-old Wauconda man who died from a heroin overdose in the morning hours on May 16.    According to a news release from the LCSO, Deputies and Coroner investigators called in CID after determining the scene reflected the death was the result of a drug overdose.  In an investigation led by Det. Chris Covelli, members of CID were able to identify the probable source of the heroin and subsequently were able to establish contact with that individual. Students Discover Body In Wisconsin State Park

Lake County seventh-grade students were hiking at Devil's Lake State Park in Wisconsin when they found a body at the base of a cliff.

The spring camping trip is typically something kids look forward to and envision the great stories that will come from it. A trip taken this week by students from Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake, however, will include a story that many may want to forget as the students made the tragic discovery of a body at the base of a cliff.  The students, their teachers and chaperones were hiking in Devil’s Lake State Park in Wisconsin on May 17 when they found a purse on the cliff top, wrote PCCS Executive Director Nigel Whittington in a letter to parents. He stated that the group looked down and discovered a body down below. They called out but got no response. The adults then called Park Rangers to investigate and assist.  The Park …

Union Stabbing Leads to Man's Arrest

  A fight between employees at a Union business resulted in a man’s stabbing and the arrest of a Chicago man on assault charges, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said. Noe X. Casimiro, 22, is charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony and unlawful use of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor, sheriff’s deputies said. Casimiro reportedly stabbed a man in the abdomen during a fight Thursday. The victim was transported to Centegra Woodstock Hospital and underwent emergency surgery, according to reports. The victim was listed in stable condition, authorities said.   The charges against the above named defendant are merely allegations against him. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

Woodstock Man Held on Drug Charges

Bond set at $60,000 for man found carrying 9.5 grams of cocaine, cash.

  A Woodstock man stopped on a traffic violation now faces multiple drug charges, the McHenry Henry County Sheriff’s office reports. Jeremiah B. Pedersen,  29,  842 Queen Anne St., Unit #1A, was stopped near the intersection of Clay Street and Maple Avenue at 3:30 p.m. Thursday for a traffic violation when a K9 picked up the scent of narcotics inside his vehicle, according to reports. A search of the vehicle uncovered 9.5 grams of cocaine along with $1,800 in cash, sheriff’s deputies said. The cocaine was worth about $800, reports stated. Pedersen is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, deputies said. His bond was set at $60,000. Crystal Lake Woman Guilty of Attempted Murder, Arson

The Northwest Herald reports that Carrie M. Gil was found guilty of trying to burn her boyfriend to death.

Crystal Lake resident Carrie M. Gil was found guilty of trying to burn her boyfriend to death, the Northwest Herald reported. Gil, 46, was charged with arson and attempted first degree murder for starting a fire Sept. 27, 2010 in the 500 block of Windham Cove. Police said that an accelerant was used to fuel the fire which began in the master bedroom where Jonathan S. Davis was sleeping. Gil was Davis' girlfriend at the time and was the only other person at home at the time of the fire. Davis testified during the trial that he had found out a month before the fire that Gil had a credit card in his name and had charged about $15,000 on it, the Northwest Herald reported. Police said Gil initially reported inconsistent facts to investigators …

Crystal Lake, McHenry County K-9 Heroes to be Honored with Memorial

Northern Illinois Police K9 Memorial members get closer to making their dream of a memorial a reality.

Tony Fanella always has loved dogs. The Lake County sheriff’s deputy and his sister, Traci Sikorski, grew up with German shepherds in their family. So when the opportunity arose for Fanella to apply for a police K9 partner, he jumped at the chance. Fanella was paired with Sinbad, a smart, loyal German shepherd. They worked together for three years. “These dogs become your best friend,” Fanella said. “You spend more time with them than your family.” Then, in June 2004, Fanella was training with Sinbad when the K9 unexpectedly suffered heat stroke and lost his life. “It was really hard on the whole family,” Sikorski said. “They work with these dogs, they’re home with them. They have such a bond.” Fanella, who now works with a police K9 named…

Police Investigate Report of Stranger Approaching Child in Algonquin

A 9-year-old girl was approached by a stranger who asked if she needed a ride Wednesday morning, according to police reports.

The Algonquin Police Department  is asking the community to be on alert after receiving a report Wednesday morning of a stranger approaching a 9-year-old girl while she was on her way to school, police said. The girl was in the area of Grandview Court and Huntington Drive in Algonquin when a white male stepped out of his car and asked her if she wanted a ride, according to an Algonquin Police Department press release. The girl was able to run and safely make it to her nearby school where she reported the incident, according to the news release. The white male — whose age is not known — was described as having a gray and black beard and was wearing glasses and a dark blue baseball cap "with something white on the front." Crystal Lake Woman To Face Arson, Attempted Murder Charges In Court

Gil, 46, is charged with arson and attempted first degree murder for starting a fire Sept. 27 2010 in the 500 block of Windham Cove. NTSB Releases Initial Report into Fatal Plane Crash

Few new details were released in the report about the crash that occurred across from the Lake in the Hills Airport on May 3.

A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Board revealed few new details surrounding the cause of a fatal plane crash in Crystal Lake in recent weeks.  Hugh Scott Clark, 65, of Lake Forest, and Paul San Filippo, 82, of Grayslake, died in the crash, according to the Northwest Herald. The report released by the NTSB confirmed San Filippo was piloting the Beech S35 Bonanza, which he owned, at the time of the crash at 3:15 p.m. May 3. The plane went down in a marshy gravel pit on the east side of Pyott Road, across the street from the airport.  The plane took off from the Lake in the Hills Airport, according to the report.
