Helen Mary Pecka, 90, of Crystal Lake

Helen Mary Pecka, age 90, at rest with the angels on May 19, 2013. She was born in Chicago on July 7, 1922 the daughter of Walter and Mary (Zmora) Bonk. Helen met her husband John Joseph Pecka, and they were married on October 13, 1946, at St. Adalbert Church in Chicago. She is survived by two daughters Elaine (Terry) Kurz and Terrie (Bill) Warzecha; two sons Rick (Jan) and Ron (Diane) Pecka; her grandchildren Vince (Melanie) Kurz, Michael (Sarah) Kurz, Jaime (Fiancee Dave McPhee) Pecka, Taryn (Fiancee Alex Mueller) Warzecha, and Nicole Warzecha; great grandchildren Brittany, Heather, Mikey, Vinny, Reagan, Kaitlyn and Colin. Betty Jo Morrow, 71, passed away peacefully May 17, 2013, in Woodstock. She was born Oct. 22, 1941, in Cambridge, Ohio. Betty Jo was a member of First United Methodist Church for 40 years, past president of United Methodist Women, and former area captain of T.O.P.S. She was a loving and devoted, wife, mother, and Grammy, and a lifelong servant of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Betty Jo is survived by her husband of 50 years, David Morrow, daughter Lori (Brian) Adcock, and son Brian (Lori) Morrow,and grandchildren; Grace, Silas, and Rebekah. Joyce Elizabeth Dwyer, 79, longtime resident of Crystal Lake, peacefully passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013, at her home. Born April 10, 1934 in Dayton, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Adam and Lois (Lane) Grismer. After the death of her mother at a young age, she was raised by her father and step-mother, Mary Grismer. Joyce was a loving mother and cherished friend and enjoyed gardening and reading. She was a member of the community choir, which she helped found, and sang in the choir at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church for over 30 years. She was a member of P.E.O. Women’s Organization, St. Jude Guild and Knit Wits. Joyce was instrumental with her late husband, Bill, and friends in the founding of Crystal Lake Gala and 4th of …

Louis "Lou" Gelsumino, 80, of Crystal Lake

Lou was a commercial artist by trade, he owned the Blue Overalls Tavern in Whitewater, Wis.

Louis “Lou” Gelsumino, 80, of Crystal Lake, passed away, May 9, 2013, in Barrington. He was born on August 25, 1932, to Louis and Ann Gelsumino in Chicago. Lou was a commercial artist by trade, he owned the Blue Overalls Tavern in Whitewater, Wis. Lou loved his family, country and fishing. Lou is survived by his daughter Debra (Pat) Sullivan and son, Michael Gelsumino; grandchildren, Nicholas Zellers, Nicole (Nick) Pacione and Patrick (Chrissy) Sullivan; and brother, Robert “Bob” Gelsumino. Donna M. Bruno, of Crystal Lake, died May 6, 2013 at the Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. She was born in Chicago the daughter of Glenn and Frances Cohn. She married her husband William V. Bruno on June 20, 1970, at St. Monica Catholic Church in Carpentersville. Donna was the office manager at the Hode Group Inc., following a teaching career at Crystal Lake South High School and the Thunderbird Pre-School. She was a “volunteer,” giving freely of her time to many events and activities at St. Thomas the Apostle Church as well as helping as a substitute teacher at St. Thomas the Apostle School. Leona Kolls, 101, of Lombard and formerly of Crystal Lake, passed away Monday, May 6, 2013. She was born on September 29, 1911, in Elgin to Charles and Anna (Andriesen) Henning. In January of 1929, she married Otto Kolls in Crystal Lake. Leona worked for many years at Ero Manufacturing and later at Oak Manufacturing. She was an active member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ for 85 years, and a member of the Women of the Moose in Crystal Lake for more than 40 years where she served as Senior Regent. She enjoyed card parties, golf, and bowling well into her 90s. John D. Bachmann passed away peacefully Sunday, May 5, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Chicago. John was CFO at Black Dot in Crystal Lake for 31 years, he retired in 1999.
