I have 5 kids and with all of their homework, dinner, activities, showers, etc, we find it hard toRead More fit it all in. They have tons of homework and then it's hard to fall asleep immediately afterwards. I definitely think these kids shouldn't be starting school at 7:15 a.m.
Brian Howell June 11, 2014 at 10:52 pm
Research upon research backs this doctor up. Teens' body clock naturally move later (staying upRead More later and getting up later.) 7:15 start times are foolish and work AGAINST good learning. Elementary school starts at 9:15! It should be the opposite. Little kids pop out of bed bright and early. Teens? Not so much. That's biology.
Wendy June 15, 2014 at 10:40 am
I agree with the Doctor. Too many kids have extra curricular activities on top of doing homework,Read More eating, showering etc. High school start time is a bit too early for these kids.

We have to make people aware that our State is run by public employee Unions and we need court casesRead More like today which ruled that the California Teacher Tenure rules are unconstitutional so that we can change laws and vote people out of office who do not represent the interests of the public who pay the taxes.

Something that is interesting to note is that high school grads are going to four year universitiesRead More and studying subject that isn't marketable. While on the other hand you have people getting vocational training at vocational schools that essentially guarantees them a job out of school that will make them 'x' amount of money. So it isn't that college degrees are worthless, some are. It is also said that sometimes trade school is the right choice! Yes, stupid prank., Yes, stupid comments re kids should maybe get hurt. Yes, stupid punishment.Read More These kids will not have learned a thing if they are not allowed to walk. A smarter punishment would be to make the kids actually clean the floors (not just the floor where they spilled the oil) - say on a friday or saturday night - with detergent (which I believe is the correct chemical to counteract oil/grease) and or whatever will make the floors clean and safe once again.
PRW May 10, 2014 at 02:55 pm
I think it is a mistake to punish by not letting them walk. In the real world, which they have beenRead More preparing for all these years, there is a price to pay. It is part of being accountable. Either let them clean it up or let them pay the cost for someone else to clean it up.
Kim G. May 11, 2014 at 10:42 am
I agree they need to be held responsible but let them walk for graduation and require them to doRead More work at the school during the summer.
Gengler April 24, 2014 at 10:47 am
Correction, Cary nor Crystal Lake Schools made the the 2014 top High School List. But neither didRead More any the other schools in the area not included in this patch.

I couldn't help but to do some comparison between Stevenson and DHS as a resident in Deerfield,Read More since district has put up the news on the website. Operational spending per student is $16,839 in Stevenson and $20,821 in DHS. STEM ranking, #37 for Stevenson and #145 for DHS. I have been very disappointed in science teaching in DHS. Now I believe that there is some truth in the rankings.

都是公立高中么?

I don't think magnet schools should be included. All the other schools have to take all students inRead More their district, magnet schools can pick and choose best students.
Kristy April 10, 2014 at 02:00 pm
Huntley is ranked #56, higher than Cary Grove per the full list.
Don Drzal April 11, 2014 at 10:51 am
The original list did not include Huntley High School. I wrote an email to the Washington Post'sRead More author, Jay Mathews, who was extremely kind and quick to reply. As you can now see, he has included our high school on the list. And whereas no one ever celebrated "We're Number 56!", it shows that Huntley and District 158 are making strides and will continue to do so. This is also a testament to our wonderful students, teachers, and community.

"Virtual walls"? Geezus... GPS spoofing is but one way around the geofence. The otherRead More is simply walking up to someone and saying "HEY *(&*(^^#&*(Y($*() !!!!!" Or use a different app created with a bogus email account... *sigh*. Sticks and stones people... sticks and stones... Walk it off and move on...
Stu Pidasso March 28, 2014 at 12:37 pm

Stu Pidasso March 28, 2014 at 12:39 pm
my kid tells me that his buddy who lives over in Europe has a math book that shows a drawing of anRead More obese American eating a Cheeseburger with Plumbers Ass , as if we are a bunch of slobs over here!!! Is that nice or what???

Kim G. January 23, 2014 at 09:50 am
Because the district/board members & new superintendent wanted to "keep up with theRead More Jones" aka Huntley and their huge new bleachers.
S.H. January 23, 2014 at 10:12 am
I thought I remember hearing/reading somewhere that the district was claiming that over 5000/6000Read More people attended the games but I've never attended a game where there was anywhere near half that amount and I don't believe they have ever proved it by showing ticket sales. I was at the game against Jacobs and (CLS lost again) it wasn't even half filled.
McCloud January 23, 2014 at 11:37 am
At least they didn't build a parking lot for no reason, where nobody ever parks. Wait a minute,Read More they did.
Roger Brock January 22, 2014 at 09:30 am
A corrupt Superintendent and over paid teachers. Starting to look a lot like Chicago schools.
babs January 22, 2014 at 01:09 pm
can't wait to see my tax bill
McCloud January 22, 2014 at 01:13 pm
Those poor teachers, they may now have to wait until age 53 to retire with full pension and healthRead More insurance.
S.H. January 21, 2014 at 06:22 pm
Let's hope the district doesn't drag this out anymore. Everything that has happened is totally theirRead More fault. Now it's time for them to fix it.
Kim G. January 10, 2014 at 07:53 pm
Did Thomas actually show up to these negotiations? Maybe he should give up 6 months of hisRead More "bonus" for all the times he never bothered to show up for the other meetings.
Roger Brock January 13, 2014 at 10:32 am
Now all they have left to do is FIRE Thomas !!!!!

Will these days get added on in June or do we get 5 "snow" days before they start addingRead More on days? Just wondering.
Stephanie Price January 6, 2014 at 02:03 pm
The two days missed will be added to the end of the school year for District 47, so the last day ofRead More school will be June 6th now (now June 4th) unless more snow days are needed, according to Super. Kathy Hinz. District 155 said they will update their calendar this week and post it for the public to see.

And now D155 must decide what to do with Mr. High falutin Superintendant. FIRE HIM !!!!
McCloud December 20, 2013 at 12:46 pm
You could do that, but these guys get paid out the wazoo for the rest of their lives, too manyRead More union dollars (our money) to the leaders who make it so.

gotta say it....newly elected school board and new board president need to BUTT OUT of the day toRead More day operations of the school and do the jobs they are supposed to do....... 66% of administrators leave in less than a year.....there is a problem here........who wants t bet on how long the last 2 admins stay......anybody ever seen a 100% turnover of admin staff in a year???? Bet it will happen.......
Douglas December 17, 2013 at 09:48 pm
The talent of Lynette Zimmer is 10 times the talent of the school board president, not to mentionRead More 100 times the training. What are the teachers and the board thinking when they chase off talent....the position will end up vacant? Maybe it should... .time for District 46 to be dissolved and absorbed. Better for taxpayers, better for students, better for the younger teachers, and certainly more civil treatment for the remaining administrators.
