Learning how to take care of this whale species now will save it from extinction decades from nowRead More when their numbers are diminished through reckless hunting.

There are good reasons for certain institutions to capture wild creatures. WS mentioned one. ThatRead More said, there is the problem with over stocking of captured animals and not understanding them. Orcas are the primary example. Most orcas are not being captured for study but for profit. And when you have an 8 - 10 ton animal in an enclosed space your may have trouble - two trainers killed by the same orca. There are no recorded instances of orcas attacking humans in the wild - get one in a tank and even if the death is accidental you are still playing with fire - orcas are not dogs. They are highly intelligent creatures - actually the largest member of the dolphin family although their size resulted in their being termed "whale" many years ago and it has stuck. So I agree with both Gina and William on that subject. I am a little surprised that the Shedd is now expanding into a dog show as well. if that helps encourage people to adopt rescued dogs, great.

Ty, the even bigger political game was that the lottery was sold to ADD TO school funding. Instead,Read More what they did was to use the proceeds to REPLACE the existing funding. The net effect is the schools got about the same amount of money but the state got a huge windfall of new money (the old source of money that used to go to the schools) that they then used on port barrel spending to buy themselves more years at the public trough.

You have to be kidding me if excitement is the criteria...To consider putting Crystal Lake in aRead More class with Evanston, Berkeley, Cambridge, etc. is both an shoddy self promoting PR attempt and absurd. Get real and eliminate lame topics used as news filler...

Romans 1:24-32 New International Version (NIV) 24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinfulRead More desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their error. 28 Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done. 29 They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; 31 they have no understanding, no fidelity, no love, no mercy. 32 Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.

Roger , I know people hate to hear these Scriptures from the Bible, but it is true. If anyone readRead More the Bible, they would know how in the last days all these kinds of behaviors would be so exceptable, as if it were nornal. I wonder if people EVER stop to think how much the world has changed. What's bad is now good, and what's good and right, is now bad. I often think of hollywood, those people who look apon the rest of the world and think they are so much better because of their fame and fortune. Then I think of Christians, Gods children and Know We are the ones who are truly Rich, and Blessed beyond measure, and they are the paupers. Their life on earth is so brief, and when it's over, their judgment. How very sad. Not all that long ago before Justin Beaver became famous, I read he was a Christian. He was never a Christian. The Bible says, You will know them by their fruits, meaning how they live their life. Is it for God, or is it for the world? Well look at his life, All the glory goes to him. He is so full of pride now. That's who he was all along. it sickens me. He is so self decieved. He sold his soul to the devil for the lust of this world. Honostly my heart breaks for him, and for Hollywood! OK, I'm done. If anyone is interested, I have a blog on this Crystal Lake/ Cary Patch. I write some very interesting articles about Christianity and the self decieved. It's called, The Decieved Christian. Please check it out. You might be one of them! Dee
