Area government officials are looking for the public's input on ways to address the degrading water quality of Woods Creek Watershed. The Woods Creek Watershed drains approximately 9 square miles to Crystal Creek. Large portions of the watershed include subdivisions of homes, commercial/industrial centers, farmland, gravel mining operations, area schools, and recreational facilities primarily in the villages of Algonquin, Lake in the Hills, and city of Crystal Lake, according to a village of Algonquin press release. The watershed also contains streams, lakes, wetlands, and upland prairies, savannas, and woodlands. Illinois lawmakers are again looking to expand gambling options in Illinois.
Illinois lawmakers are considering plans to add more casinos as the state continues to grapple with budget woes. The latest proposals would place casinos in Danville, Rockford and Waukegan. Another proposal would allow for slot machines to be operated at race tracks like Arlington Park, the Alton Daily News reported. The bills are sponsored by Terry Link (D-Waukegan) in the Senate and Lou Lang (D-Skokie) in the House. Gov. Pat Quinn has called the legislation to, once again, expand gambling in Illinois "a distraction." Meanwhile, behind the scenes, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has been pushing for a Chicago casino. Two Waukegan suspects arrested at Wauconda forest preserve; Waukegan man charged with drug induced homicide in relation to death of 26-year-old Wauconda man.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), Criminal Investigations Division (CID), made two arrests and seized heroin in the course of investigating the death of a 26 year-old Wauconda man who died from a heroin overdose in the morning hours on May 16. According to a news release from the LCSO, Deputies and Coroner investigators called in CID after determining the scene reflected the death was the result of a drug overdose. In an investigation led by Det. Chris Covelli, members of CID were able to identify the probable source of the heroin and subsequently were able to establish contact with that individual. The spring camping trip is typically something kids look forward to and envision the great stories that will come from it. A trip taken this week by students from Prairie Crossing Charter School in Grayslake, however, will include a story that many may want to forget as the students made the tragic discovery of a body at the base of a cliff. The students, their teachers and chaperones were hiking in Devil’s Lake State Park in Wisconsin on May 17 when they found a purse on the cliff top, wrote PCCS Executive Director Nigel Whittington in a letter to parents. McHenry County Sheriff's arrest Chicago man.
A fight between employees at a Union business resulted in a man’s stabbing and the arrest of a Chicago man on assault charges, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office said. Noe X. Casimiro, 22, is charged with aggravated battery, a Class 3 felony and unlawful use of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor, sheriff’s deputies said. Casimiro reportedly stabbed a man in the abdomen during a fight Thursday. The victim was transported to Centegra Woodstock Hospital and underwent emergency surgery, according to reports. The victim was listed in stable condition, authorities said. The charges against the above named defendant are merely allegations against him. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

A Woodstock man stopped on a traffic violation now faces multiple drug charges, the McHenry Henry County Sheriff’s office reports. Jeremiah B. Pedersen, 29, 842 Queen Anne St., Unit #1A, was stopped near the intersection of Clay Street and Maple Avenue at 3:30 p.m. Thursday for a traffic violation when a K9 picked up the scent of narcotics inside his vehicle, according to reports. A search of the vehicle uncovered 9.5 grams of cocaine along with $1,800 in cash, sheriff’s deputies said. The cocaine was worth about $800, reports stated. Pedersen is charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and unlawful possession of a controlled substance, deputies said. His bond was set at $60,000. Carolyn Cox Mahoney split from her long-time husband after what she calls years of abuse. Her wealthy ex-husband, Billy Cox, was soon convicted of attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. He's currently serving a 20-year sentence in Dixon. Last year a judge ordered Carolyn Cox Mahoney to pay back $75,852.76 to her ex-husband or serve 90 days in jail. Cox, 71, was convicted in November 2007 of attempted murder and aggravated domestic battery. He was accused of beating Mahoney in the face with a blunt object and then locking her in a garage with the cars running. According to the divorce settlement, Mahoney was supposed to transfer funds from an IRA account to Cox. In June 2011, Mahoney accused her ex-husband of attempting to hire …

We live on the creek and love being there. There used to be even more fish, turtles and birds near us. Our neighbor across the creek cleaned out the creek on a portion of his property and damned a portion as a swimming hole for his children. Now the natural migration of the fish is severely hampered.
