Since 1996, Hannah Beardsley Middle School has taught sixth through eighth grades. The school is named after Crystal Lake's first teacher, who taught students in a log schoolhouse that opened its doors in 1838. That first school was on the site currently occupied by Crystal Lake Central High School.
The 1,000 students who attend Hannah Beardsley Middle School can participate in a number of extracurricular activities including band, chorus, chess club, geography bee and bowling. Students can also compete basketball, wrestling and volleyball.
