There are plenty of holiday happenings this weekend, and many of them are family friendly and free! 

First Friday at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park - Friday

The annual "Christmas at the Dole" celebration is planned from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight, Friday, Dec. 6, along with the First Friday art show and holiday performances at the Dole/ Lakeside, 401 Country Club Rd., Crystal Lake. 

The night features an art show, musical and dance performances, ceremonial tree lighting and refreshments. More in this related Patch story. 


Crystal Lake Centennial Winter Festival - Saturday

In Crystal Lake, the Centennial Winter Festival is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Main Beach, 300 Lake Shore Dr., and the Lakeside Legacy Arts Park, 401 Country Club Rd. 

Activities - all free - will be held indoors and out. At Main Beach, guests can enjoy indoor ice skating in the beach house and snowboarding action hosted by Raging Buffalo, of Algonquin. 

At Lakeside Legacy Arts Park, many fun wintertime activities are planned such as sleigh rides (pulled by reindeer), a reindeer petting area, ice sculpting demonstrations, and music and crafts indoors. More on the festival in this story. 


Knights of Columbus Breakfast with Santa - Sunday

The Fr. McCormick Council Knights of Columbus group is holding a Breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, Dec. 8, in the St. Thomas the Apostle  Church Parish Community Center, located on the corner of Route 176 and Oak Street.

The public is invited to bring their little ones to meet Santa, enjoy breakfast, get a treat and have their photo taken with the Jolly Old Elf. Admission is $6 per person, seniors $5, and family rate of $20. More information in this story.
