Week Ahead: Special Ceremonies, Programs for Veterans

Here is what's happening for the week of Monday, Nov. 11, 2013.

Greetings Patch readers on this Veterans Day!

I'd like to extend a special thank to all the men and women in Crystal Lake and Cary who have served in the armed forces.

There are several special events planned to honor Veterans today.

Crystal Lake South High School is holding a special ceremony at 9 a.m. today, with Secretary of State Jessie White as the keynote speaker. Several area veterans will be honored during the event.

Colonial Cafe in Crystal Lake will host a "Meet and Greet a Marine" at 5 p.m. at the restaurant, 5689 Route 14, Crystal Lake. Attendees can meet a U.S. Marine. The event will also help kick off the Marines' annual Toys For Tots collection drive. More information here.

Abiding Spirit Aikikai will host a Veterans Outreach Program at 7 p.m. Tuesday night at 1540 Carlemont Dr., Suite E., in Crystal Lake. Free Aikido training course are available for veterans, active duty, guard, reserve, and veterans with physical limitations. More information here.

Have a great week!
