Wind Chill Warning for McHenry County

Residents should brace for extreme cold wind chill temperatures beginning Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Wind Chill Warning effective 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, until noon on Tuesday, Jan. 7. 

A prolongued period of dangerously cold wind chills are likely Sunday night through Tuesday morning. The most extreme wind chills will be late Sunday night through Monday afternoon.  

Wind chills colder than 30 degrees below zero are expected. Wind chills of -40 to -50 are likely late Sunday night into Monday afternoon. 

A wind chill warning means the wind will combine with very cold air to create dangerously low wind chill values. This will result in frost bit and lead to hypothermia or death if precautions are not taken, the NWS states.
