Wind Chill Advisory Issued for McHenry County

McHenry County should brace for below zero wind chills later Monday through Tuesday, Jan. 21.

The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a wind chill advisory for McHenry County effective from midnight Monday through 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Other counties under the advisory include Winnebago, Boone, Ogle, Lee, DeKalb, and Kane.

Temperatures will drop as low as 5 degrees below zero tonight. Wind chill values are expected to drop as low as -25 later tonight through Tuesday morning, the NWS said.

During such extreme cold conditions, frost bite and hypothermia can occur in a matter of minutes.

A wind chill advisory means the wind will combine with the very cold air to generate low wind chills. Anyone who must venture outdoors should take the necessary precautions, dress warmly, wear hat and gloves, the National Weather Service warns.
