Midwest Meteor Sightings Reported

Was it a meteor? Or just a cool sunrise? American Meteor Society investigates more than 400 reports of sightings in the Midwest.

The American Meteor Society is investigating more than 400 reports of meteor sightings in the Midwest early Thursday morning,NBC reports.

According to NBC, the possible meteor sightings were all over the internet Thursday morning. Check out our Storify above of a few photos and tweets we were able to find.

As of 1:43 p.m. Thursday, AMS had received 400 reports of fireball sightings over Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ontario, Ohio, Missouri, Tennessee, Louisiana and Wisconsin. 

Sixty-six of the reports came from Illinois, according to AMS. Among sightings in the Chicago area were Joliet, Des Plaines, Chicago, Tinley Park, Schaumburg, Lisle, Winfield, Oakbrook Terrace, Naperville, Highland Park and Niles. The photo above is from Twitter user K-Mitch in Palatine.
