Cold, 4 Inches of Snow Possible for New Year's Eve
The Year 2014 may arrive accompanied by frigid temperatures and up to 4 inches of snow in McHenry County.
Get ready for a cold and snowy start to the New Year.
A wind chill advisory remains in effect through noon Monday, Dec. 30, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
Temperatures will likely plunge to 0 to 13 below by Sunday night, and wind chill values could reach 20 to 30 degrees below zero, according to the NWS.
A wind chill advisory means winds will combine with very cold air to generate low wind chills. This could result in frost bite and lead to hypothermia if precautions are not taken, the NWS warns.
The high temperature for Monday is expected to reach 15 degrees, and the high for Tuesday will be about 12 degrees, according to Aol Weather.
However, snow showers are possible Monday, and could return Tuesday afternoon and continue falling through Wednesday. Accumulations could amount to 2 to 4 inches in some areas. Some Chicago area meteorologists are predicting 6 inches could fall in some parts of Northern Illinois.
Temperatures for the remainder of the week will fluctuate - as high as 26 degrees on Wednesday - and falling to 10 degrees by Friday.
