Storm Leaves Over 1,700 Crystal Lake Area Residents Without Power

The Crystal Lake Police Department is reporting the strong thunderstorms and heavy winds that blew in on Sunday have left many homeowners without power, and several downed power lines throughout the city. 

Crystal Lake Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior said most of the damage consisted of numerous trees and utility lines blown down by strong winds. Downed trees and power lines blocked several streets in the city, including Route 176 between Route 14 and Oak Street on the north side of town. 

Emergency crews from the Fire Rescue, Public Works, and Police Departments responded to dozens of calls for service between roughly 1 and 2 p.m. Sunday, which included 19 reports of wires down. There were no reported injuries or fatalities related to this storm, Dziewior said in a news release. 

Com Ed reported at 3:30 p.m. Sunday that roughly 1,722 customers were without electrical power. The bulk of those customers appear to live on the far north side of Crystal Lake near Walkup Road. 

ComEd crews are in the area and are engaged in restoring power to those affected, Dziewior said. 

A small number of outages were reported Cary, according to the ComEd outage map including 22 customers without power on the far west side of the village. Neighboring Walmart, located at 1205 S. Route 31 in Crystal Lake was without power, as well, and turning customers away.  

Crystal Lake residents are encouraged to report power outages and downed lines directly to Com Ed at 1-800-EDISON1(1-800-334-7661). Spanish speaking customers should call 1-800-95 LUCES (1-800-955-8237).

Anyone encountering a downed power line is urged to stay away from it, and assume all lines are energized and extremely dangerous.
