Cary Lions Club to Host Free Hearing Test Program

Hearing loss is occurs slowly and often times goes unnoticed, area residents have the opportunity to a free hearing test.

The Cary Lions Club is sponsoring the Lions of Illinois Hearing Van on Monday June 13.

"The main mission of Lions Clubs is to provide assistance and support to those with hearing and vision impairments," Carol Santee, Lions club publicity chair said.

The Hearing Van will be located on Route 14 in the parking lot in front of the Jewel Osco in Cary from 9 a.m.  to 4 p.m.

The free hearing screening takes about 10 -15 minutes and there are no appointments necessary.

A certified technician will provide written test results for  your records or to share with your health care provider.

There are many causes of hearing loss - most commonly age, a Lions club press release said. 

"There are 40 percent of the age of 65 and 80 percent over the age of 85, experiencing hearing loss, the release said. 

However, hearing loss often begins much earlier and goes unnoticed.

"We assist underprivileged to obtain hearing aids through our Lions of Illinois Foundation as requested," Santee said. "Our club has also donated funds to Cary Soccer Association to pay for sign interpreters to aid hearing impaired students (to) be able to participate in soccer."

If Diagnosed early, hearing loss in usually easier to address medically, the press release said.

The Cary Lions Club has sponsored the Lions of Illinois Foundation's hearing van annually for several years.

This service is provided free by the donations from the community to Cary Lions.
